Simplifying and downsizing has millions of people seeking smaller living spaces; as a result, there’s a growing trend toward smaller more efficient kitchens.
Why smaller? There is a multitude of reasons.
First, you have the growing number of one person households ( over 32 million now), Second, the growth of the urban population ( according to the US Census Bureau we have seen a 12% growth from 2000 to 2010) means more people in smaller spaces. And the ever changing employment picture for Gen Y has many of them are delaying there first home purchase and renting instead,
As a kitchen designer I am excited by the challenge of creating micro kitchens that allows people to enjoy their life’s in these much smaller spaces.
That is why I was so excited to see the GE Appliances’ new micro – kitchen appliance concepts ( GE MONO-BLOCK ) ” The design concept fits all the functionality of a high- end kitchen into a single 6-foot- wide unit” What they have done is put all the items you need, dishwasher , microwave, refrigeration, induction cooktop and even a washer-dryer into 24″ wide drawer units that are interchangeable and customizable to meet the consumers’ individual needs.
